Clear Creek Canyon Rock Climbing
Climbing is inherently dangerous. Climb at your own risk. This is not an instruction on how to rock climb or where to rock climb, it is merely my opinion. Failure to learn how to climb and failure to learn about where and when to climb can lead to death. Get qualified instruction before climbing.
Widely regarded as one of the premier climbing destinations on Colorado’s Front Range, Clear Creek Canyon offers an impressive range of sport climbing for nearly every ability level. Routes span from approachable 5.3 slabs to powerful and technical 5.14c lines that continue to draw elite climbers from across the region. Its close proximity to Denver and easy roadside access make it an obvious choice for quick sessions and weekend outings alike – and it also happens to be the first place I tied in when I returned to climbing in 2020.
That convenience comes at a price: Clear Creek is often one of the busiest climbing areas on the Front Range, particularly during summer weekends. Showing up early can make a big difference when it comes to parking, route selection, and avoiding the heat. As always, climbers should follow all posted traffic and parking regulations to help preserve access and ensure this classic canyon remains open and welcoming for years to come.
