Staunton Rock Climbing

Staunton State Park Rock Climbing

Climbing is inherently dangerous. Climb at your own risk. This is not an instruction on how to rock climb or where to rock climb, it is merely my opinion. Failure to learn how to climb and failure to learn about where and when to climb can lead to death. Get qualified instruction before climbing.

Staunton State Park is one of the top rock climbing destinations on Colorado’s Front Range, offering high-quality granite routes in a scenic, backcountry setting just outside Denver. Rock climbing in Staunton State Park includes both sport and trad lines, with grades ranging from easy 5.4 routes to steep, technical climbs for advanced climbers.

Unlike roadside crags, Staunton requires short hikes to most climbing areas, which helps reduce crowds and creates a quieter, more immersive experience. The park is especially popular during summer, so arriving early improves parking access and allows climbers to take advantage of cooler morning temperatures. To preserve access, climbers should follow all Staunton State Park climbing regulations, stay on established trails, and practice Leave No Trace ethics. A day pass or annual Colorado State Parks Pass is required for entrance.
