Hiking with Wildlife

When hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park, you may encounter wildlife. There was a sign that warned of a bear that had been frequenting the area. While I have not encountered a bear while hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park, I know they are present because I have seen them in Estes Park.

Over the years, I have encountered moose, elk, bighorn sheep, and marmots, all reminders that wildlife is an important part of the park experience. Fortunately, I have avoided seeing bears or mountain lions — the quiet predators often referred to as the ghosts of the forest.

Please visit the National Park Service website for more information about wildlife safety.
