Our next stop on our cruise adventure was the island of Corfu—my first time setting foot in Greece. As we approached the harbor, the lush green hills rising from the brilliant blue Ionian Sea made an unforgettable first impression. Corfu, known in Greek as Kerkyra, has a history stretching back thousands of years and has been shaped by Venetian, French, and British rule before officially becoming part of modern Greece in 1864. Its strategic location made it highly sought after, and that layered history is still reflected in the island’s architecture and coastal fortresses.

We spent the day at Barbati Beach, a beautiful stretch of white pebbles beneath Mount Pantokrator, the island’s highest peak. I waded into the warm, 74-degree water, which was clear and calm—perfect for a long swim. As I floated in the Ionian Sea, I spotted schools of white seabream gliding beneath the surface, their silver scales flashing in the sunlight. Surrounded by green hills and crystal-clear water, it was a peaceful and unforgettable introduction to Greece.

After relaxing on the beach, we set sail north along the Adriatic toward Dubrovnik

As our day in Corfu came to a close, we lingered on the sun-warmed beach, the turquoise waters stretching endlessly before us. I waded into the gentle surf, watching small fish dart between my legs, and felt the calm of the Mediterranean in a way no city streets could offer. Corfu reminded me that not every stop needed ancient ruins or Roman grids — sometimes, the history is in the water, the light, and the rhythm of the waves.

As our ship turned north along the Adriatic, Dubrovnik awaited — a city of medieval walls, coastal vistas, whispers of Roman influence and GOT.
